Experience

Kayla Hui is a public health journalist and writer where she focuses on the social determinants of health and the impact it has on disadvantaged communities. In 2020, she won a Pulitzer Center Fellowship and Slants Foundation Award for her reporting on the mental health of Chinese immigrant truck drivers. Her reporting on the impacts of coastal flooding on the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe can be found onToward Freedom.

Prior to serving as a Pulitzer Center fellow, Kayla worked as a prison rape elimination act helpline counselor at the Boston Area Rape Crisis Center. For nearly two years, she collaborated with local organizations and the Massachusetts Department of Corrections in providing sexual assault and housing resources to reentering individuals. She also has experience working in philanthropy for domestic and global non-profits and non-governmental organizations including the Women's Education Project, Health Access Volunteers, Tennessee Department of Health, Honeycomb Project, Jacaranda Health, and Center for Sensory Impairment, Aging, and Metabolism.

Education

Kayla received her Master of Public Health degree from the Boston University School of Public Health and has a bachelor's degree in Global Health and Gender and Women Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
