Sherry Smothermon-Short is a former writer for Verywell Family covering scouting. She is an active Cub Scout volunteer and blogger. She believes that scouting organizations offer many benefits to kids and their families.

Sherry has been actively involved in Cub Scouting since 2009. During that time, she has served as a den leader for all of the Cub Scout ranks. She has served as her pack's committee chairman for three years. Sherry has volunteered as the director, program director or instructor for her local Cub Scout day camp for seven summers.

Sherry knows firsthand how beneficial scouting can be but also how much time and work it can require—especially when you're new to scouting. So, in 2013, she started a blog, Cub Scout Ideas, to share with other parents what she had learned.

The goal of Cub Scout Ideas is to save parents time by giving them fun, inexpensive, easy and creative ideas so they can spend less time on the work and more time on the focus of scouting.

Sherry earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in communication from the University of Tulsa.
